In Melbourne Tonight: Graham Kennedy, Bert Newton

19 October 1964: In Melbourne Tonight presents its first show from GTV9‘s new Studio 9. Special guest on the show is Bert Newton, making his return to TV after nine months due to illness.

19 October 1974: The first day of colour test programming, as permitted by the Australian Broadcasting Control Board. The official changeover to full-time colour transmission followed on 1 March 1975.

19 October 1984: Network 0-28 premieres current affairs program Dateline World (later named Dateline), hosted by Paul Murphy.

19 October 1985: Adelaide-based program Music Express celebrates its 10th anniversary with a three-hour special taped in front of a live audience at Adelaide’s Le Rox nightclub. Later, ADS7 presents the 1986 Miss South Australia Quest, hosted by Tony Gordon and Wheel Of Fortune‘s Adriana Xenides, broadcast live from the station’s North Adelaide studios.

19 October 1990: Commencing a week-long celebration of its tenth anniversary, SBS begins a repeat screening of the 1982 mini-series Women Of The Sun.

19 October 1994: The Nine Network presents the special The Very Best Of The Don Lane Show. Don Lane introduces some of the memorable segments to have come from the popular variety show that ran from 1975 to 1983, including footage of guest stars Mel Brooks, Billy Connolly, Charlton Heston, Bob Hope, Liza Minnelli, Robin Williams, Sammy Davis Jnr, Peter Allen, Peter Sellers and Johnny O’Keefe.

19 October 1995: ABC presents the documentary Behind The Frontline, taking a look behind-the-scenes into the production of current affairs satire Frontline.

19 October 1996: Hey Hey It’s Saturday celebrates its 25th anniversary with a special episode from Walt Disney World in Florida.

19 October 1999: The Nine Network premieres Simply The Best. Host Ray Martin and a panel of celebrity and expert judges celebrate the people, moments and memories of the past 100 years.

19 October 2006: The Nine Network premieres Big Questions. Host Jules Lund and a group of panellists seeking to answer the mundane questions that polarise Australians.

19 October 2008: Network Ten presents the 22nd annual ARIA Awards. Hosted by Hamish Blake, Andy Lee and James Mathison from Acer Arena, Sydney.

19 October 2010: The Seven Network premieres Iron Chef Australia, hosted by Grant Denyer.
