17 October 1959: NWS9 Adelaide premieres variety show Adelaide Tonight, hosted by Lionel Williams and Kevin Crease. Performers in the first show included American comedian Oscar Cartier, local singer Paula Kitson, comedian Hal Turner and a 24-year-old Malaysian student, Kamahl, making his television debut. Adelaide Tonight continued in various forms until 1973.

17 October 1976: TVW7 Perth presents its annual Telethon, raising a total of $721,624 — including the auction of the Telethon house, which was sold for $62,500.

17 October 1979: The Seven Network presents the fourth annual Sammy Awards, live from Sydney’s Seymour Centre and hosted by Roger Climpson.

17 October 1997: After 13 years as Helen Daniels, Anne Haddy makes her final appearance in Neighbours.
