28 April 1969: Melbourne’s ATV0 premieres its morning show Fredd Bear’s Breakfast A Go-Go, with Fredd Bear (Tedd Dunn), Judy Banks, Michael McCarthy and Colin McEwan. The show, a mix of cartoons, serials, interviews and sketches, ran for three years.

28 April 1970: On the eve of the 200th anniversary of Captain Cook’s arrival at what is now the east coast of Australia, ABC screens the docu-drama The Infinite Pacific, presenting a re-enactment of Captain Cook’s expedition, which ultimately ended with his death in Hawaii. The special, also featuring reporter Richard Oxenburgh, was filmed in Australia, Tahiti, Samoa, Fiji, New Zealand, Tonga and San Francisco.
