18 June 1980: The acclaimed documentary The Last Tasmanian is shown in Perth two years after appearing in the eastern states and as a cinema release. Three years in the making, The Last Tasmanian presented a dramatised account of the genocide of 4000 Tasmanian aborigines and profiled the life of Truganini — believed to be the last full blood Tasmanian aboriginal — who died in 1876, aged in her mid-60s. The Last Tasmanian won Logie and Sammy awards in 1979 for best documentary.
