Obituary: Sonia Borg

soniaborgSonia Borg, writer, producer and actor from various Crawford productions, died earlier this month.

Born in Vienna in 1931, Borg studied acting before she and her family moved to India, where her father secured a job as an engineer. Borg joined Shakespeareana International, a theatre company that toured various countries including India, Singapore and Hong Kong.

Her family then came to Australia in 1961, and Borg went on to start at Crawford Productions as a drama coach. She wrote her first scripts for the Crawford drama series Consider Your Verdict and was a producer for later episodes.

She went on to write, produce and appear in episodes of Homicide, Matlock Police and Division 4.

Writing credits for television also included The Spoiler, Rush, Power Without Glory, Solo One, Young Ramsay, I Can Jump Puddles, Women Of The Sun, Ratbag Hero and Mercury.

She was also an actor, casting director, associate producer, freelance scriptwriter and script assessor for the Australian Film Commission and had worked for the ABC. In 1985 Borg was awarded a Member of the Order of Australia in the Australia Day Honours List for her services to the film and television industry.

Sonia Borg passed away earlier this month at an aged care facility in Apollo Bay, Victoria.

    What an amazingly versatile talent and such an important contributor to the golden days at Crawford Productions in particular.

    She was a great writer and actress etc,melbourne loved her
