Janet Andrewartha, best known from long-running roles in Prisoner and Neighbours, has died peacefully at age 72.

Born in Melbourne, her acting career started after graduating from the National Theatre in 1979. Her early stage credits included a touring one-woman show, Singin’ In The Raid.

She continued to play theatrical roles in Australia and overseas throughout her career.

On television she had minor roles in Carson’s Law and the ABC series Home before two years as prison inmate Reb Kean in Prisoner.

She later appeared in the mini-series This Man… This Woman and two seasons of ABC’s Embassy.

Further guest credits included A Country Practice, Janus, Blue Heelers and State Coroner before her next ongoing role, as Lyn Scully in Neighbours, starting in 1999. She stayed with the series until 2006 then made occasional appearances up until 2019.

Later TV credits included Harrow, Seven Types of Ambiguity, Safe Home and most recently in the Paramount+ series Fake.
