Southern Cross Ten has today (Thursday) announced the cancellation of its local news and current affairs program Weeknights in Shepparton.
The locally-based program, which debuted in March 2011, offered an alternative local news program to the Shepparton and Goulburn Valley market in regional Victoria.
The only other local news program broadcast in the region is WIN News, presented from Ballarat.
On the program’s Facebook page, Rick Lenarcic, Executive Director of Regional at Southern Cross Austereo, said, “The challenging media environment and associated costs means that sadly Weeknights will broadcast for the last time this evening. We are now looking at other roles in our network for the Weeknights team.”
Weeknights was hosted by Ashleigh Gardner (pictured) with reporters Henry Jones, Penelope Liersch and Peter Cardamone.
The axing of Weeknights follows rival network WIN‘s recent cancellation of local news bulletins for Mackay in Queensland and Mildura in Victoria.
