SBS Channel 0/28 commences regular weekday programming, including the launch of Worldwide News, presented by George Donikian, at 9.30pm. The title was later shortened to World News. By March, the news was shifted to the earlier 7.30pm timeslot.
The channel went on to receive acclaim for its focus on international news, something at that time often lacking in other TV news services.
