The VFL Grand Final is not permitted to be broadcast live in Victoria until 1977, but Melbourne’s four TV channels all provide varying amounts of coverage before and after the big game. ATV0, the newest channel keen to assert its presence, presents over two hours of previews, including a repeat of the previous night’s Sports Angle program, plus a film featuring the league’s Brownlow Medal winner for the year, Gordon Collis from the Carlton Football Club.
The Grand Final match, Collingwood versus Melbourne played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, was won by Melbourne and would be the team’s last Grand Final win until 2021.
