ABC broadcasts the Australian Opera production of Prokofiev’s adaptation of Tolstoy’s War And Peace. The telecast, produced jointly between ABC and BBC, is from a dress rehearsal performance held at the Sydney Opera House on 26 September 1973, two days ahead of its first performance. Although Australian television was still in black and white, the performance was recorded in colour for BBC transmission.
War And Peace was the first opera to be performed at the Sydney Opera House, ahead of its official opening on 20 October 1973.
