Monday 3 October 1966 — VICTORIA

ABC relaunches its late afternoon line-up, including the series return of children’s science program Why Is It So? and new episodes of British sci-fi Doctor Who. But the highlight of the new schedule is the debut of Be Our Guest, a curious mix of drama, music and interviews, with a cast including Jacki Weaver, Lorraine Bayly and Sean Scully. Guests in the first episode include pop star Normie Rowe and French singer Jean Sablon.

Later in the evening, ABC’s Australian Playhouse presents the play Objector, starring John Derum, Elspeth Ballantyne, Syd Conabere and Carl Bleazby. It tells the story of a young man who fears conscription, bringing him into direct conflict with his father. Objector was written by Tony Morphett.
