Sunday 1 August 1971 — SYDNEY

The American Apollo 15 mission’s second day on the moon has live coverage. Channels were to also have live coverage the following night, with Apollo 15 due to blast-off to commence its return to Earth on Tuesday morning (Australian time) — also to be telecast live to a global audience.

The Sydney Morning Herald noted that its TV station ATN7 would have coverage from 11.15pm, but this was not listed.

Normal scheduled programs during the night may have also been subject to interruption due to covering events and press conferences related to the Apollo 15 mission — man’s fourth landing on the moon.
