Seven News in Perth has announced that its world-record newsreading double of Rick Ardon and Susannah Carr will be reducing their workload as it transitions to a new line-up.

The move comes after the pair celebrated 40 years at the Seven News desk last year, and in 2022 being confirmed by the Guinness Book Of Records as the longest-running newsreading team in the world.

From 18 January, Seven News in Perth will be fronted by Tim McMillan and Angela Tsun on Sunday to Wednesday nights, with Ardon and Carr on Thursday to Saturday.

Carr said: “We often get asked just how long we’ll remain in the role and now seems the right time to stay at the desk but start freeing ourselves up to enjoy life away from the studio more. If there’s one thing I’ve learned from delivering the news for 40 years, it’s that life can change instantly, so when change can happen on your terms, you run with it.”

Ardon said: “We’re continuing our strong relationship with our loyal viewers, and I expect to be a news breaker well into the future.”

Ray Kuka, Director of News and Current Affairs at Seven, said: “2025 was a celebration of Sue and Rick’s historic contribution to WA, with a world record of 40 years fronting a news bulletin. It was also a moment of reflection for Sue and Rick, and it became clear this was the right time to give them more flexibility, while ensuring the future of WA’s most watched and trusted bulletin – a news service they helped shape – continues to thrive with their enduring influence.”

Seven West Media WA CEO Maryna Fewster said: “If 2025 wasn’t big enough, 2026 is going to be huge with this shuffling of roles on the Seven News desk in such a respectful and supported manner.”

McMillan has previously worked at ABC radio in Perth and Melbourne and at Nine in Sydney and Melbourne before returning to Perth in 2012 for Nine News and Today. He joined Seven News as weekend newsreader in 2020 and also presented Seven’s local current affairs program, Flashpoint.

Tsun joined Seven News in 2013 after working for The Weather Channel, Nine News and WIN. She has been weekend news presenter at Seven News since 2015.
