Peter Waltham, longtime Perth-based media identity, has died from cancer at age 83.
A veteran of over seven decades in the media, his career started at radio station 6IX in 1959.
He made the move to television in 1966, joining TVW7. He read the news, covered the moon landing and Olympic Games and hosted many Telethon broadcasts.

He knocked back offers to work for Kerry Packer and for BBC, in both cases choosing family over career. In 1987, he made a high-profile switch from TVW7 to rival station STW9.
In 1999 he began a long association with Curtin FM, presenting three hours each weekday for over 25 years.

Will never forget his considered kindness as my mums neighbour in 2010 with the freak hail storm that teared through our street in Hollywood, as my mum Hazel was terrified with fear and Peter comforted her to safety, then when mum had passed away in 2014 Peter again provided wonderful professional help to me upon our respectful attempts to do the house up for sale via auction.
Forever grateful Dear Peter 💎❤️🩹🙏
Sincere condolences to the Waltham Family💐🙏

Peter and I as kids lived in Como in McDonald street. After school he and I played cricket on his front verge. He was a talented sportsman and if I remember had a low golf handicap. Sorry to see go mate. I will always remember you.
