Food Network launches 17 November

curtisstoneSBS has unveiled details of its new food channel, Food Network, which is to begin transmission on Tuesday 17 November.

Food Network, to be available on digital channel 33, will feature locally-made product from SBS combined with programs sourced through a licencing agreement with Scripps Networks Interactive — producer of food and lifestyle programs from around the world.

Australian Curtis Stone (pictured) will feature prominently on Food Network as host of Beach Eats USA and cooking competition Kitchen Inferno. The channel will also feature his series Surfing The Menu.

Imported programs on Food Network will include Rachael Ray’s 30 Minute Meals, Giada at Home, Man Fire Food, Reza: Spice Prince of Vietnam, Bizarre Foods, Diners, Drive Ins & Dives and Chopped.

In a statement issued today, SBS managing director Michael Ebeid said:

“SBS has a proud reputation for delivering distinctive food programming that allows Australians to delve into different cultures, and today we’re excited to reveal the next course in our food menu. Food Network will offer a taste of something more, with a focus on simple, authentic and accessible everyday food inspiration from around the world, available all day, every day, across platforms, and for free.”

Food Network will commence on Tuesday 17 November at 1.00pm AEDST. It will broadcast 24 hours a day, 7 days and week, and all programs will also be available on SBS On Demand.

    In order to get the new SBS platform, you need to retune the digital TV or set-top-box/pvr. I won’t bother. This new platform won’t be worth the exertion of energy required even to turn the devices on or off.
