Everybody loves a web poll… so why not do one here?
I’d like to start off with finding out the Best Of… The Eighties. The decade where the hair was big and the shoulder pads were even bigger — and that’s just on the guys.
In TV terms there was a lot happening during the decade: Mini-Series, Dramas, Variety, Comedy, News and Current Affairs, Children’s Programs, Special Events.
But before we put this illustrious decade to the vote I’d like some suggestions as to who should be nominated on the short list. I am looking for suggestions for the following categories:
- Best Actor
- Best Actress
- Best Drama Series
- Best Comedy Program
- Best Variety/Light Entertainment Program
- Best Children’s Program
- Best News and Current Affairs Presenter
- Best News and Current Affairs Program
- Best Special Event
- Best Daytime Program
- Best Music Program
- Best Mini-Series
- Best Channel/Network
- Best Male Television Personality
- Best Female Television Personality
The only criteria is that the person or program is Australian and broadcast on Australian TV during the period 1980 to 1989.
Submit your suggestions below. A short list for each category will then be compiled taking these into account and then the vote is on.
There are no prizes for the winners apart from the pleasant feeling that they have obviously left a lasting impression on us.

So much history to recall. Can we have a presented list? Wasn’t Lynda Stoner once the wife of my apartment building’s famous bearded media person? Yes, the famous bearded media person who has just separated from his present wife and it has been suggested that he may be hooking up with a previous wife who he married twice.
