Friday 20 July 1973 — MELBOURNE

The Evil Touch, a 26-episode anthology series of mysteries, makes its debut on GTV9.

The series was an Australian production but with an eye on the overseas market featured guest appearances by a list of American actors. Although Australian television was still in black-and-white, the series was produced in colour to attract overseas sales — a tactic employed by a number of Australian productions during that era.

The Evil Touch had a short run, with Nine removing the series from the schedule after only a couple of weeks with remaining episodes played out over the summer non-ratings period. The series then went on to become a regular staple of Nine’s late-night schedule for years to come.
