Saturday 7 October 1989 — MELBOURNE

SBS screens the five-hour film The Mahabharata, director Peter Brook’s adaptation of the book which forms the basis of India’s mythology. Given the movie’s long length SBS have made a rare allowance to insert breaks into the presentation, but these are only placed at points which separate the three significant stages in the story.
