    Hi,
Could BTQ 9 Brisbane load up a tv program (as televised) guide for the day of the 1969 moon landing? or someone load up that days program?….I remember being ushered into the cluttered brown bricked storage area of St Flannans Church (primary school, Zillmere) with all the other kids to watch the landing – the significance of the event was lost on me at the time but…I still rememember it after 48 years.
    cheers.

    1. Hi Andrew, I don’t have access to that particular day’s listing for Brisbane and given the nature of the event it is possible that advance guides such as in magazines weren’t a reliable schedule of the broadcast events anyway, as details of daily coverage were probably changing as the event was taking place.

I couldn’t think of anywhere else to post this, but does anyone know anything about the television repeater services in remote communities, such as WEQR in Weipa?

    1. I know a little bit (not much) about those repeater services that operated in QLD, WA and the NT in the 1970s and 80s but they were deemed redundant when the commercial satellite services came on in the mid 1980s and I gather that in most cases the transmitters were handed over to the commercial operators at the time.

Thanks. Were they broadcasting ABC programmes, commercial programmes, or a mix?

        1. At first I believe they broadcast ABC programs from videotapes but somewhere along the way they started carrying commercial programming instead.

I can only guess, and have nothing to back this up, that the shift in programming happened once ABC re-transmission became available via the international satellite Intelsat to remote communities in those states.

            That’s brilliant; thanks Andrew. 🙂

Just another question. My dad lived in Longreach in 1982/1983, and he said he could receive one of the regional commercial stations. I’m guessing he was watching a relay of RTQ; would this be correct?

              Author

Not sure. Longreach is very remote I would think too far for RTQ to operate a relay but maybe that’s what they did.

As it seems it’s a decade of TV guides that would be needed for the website

    Hi,

I am trying to find an article on the 5KA Top Talent Awards that was in the Adelaide TV-Radio Guide Volume 6 no. 274 Sun August 8 to Saturday August 14 1965. I am after it for research purposes for a book on the Adelaide sixties music scene. Unfortunately, it is the only edition from 1965 that the State Library of South Australia does not have.

    Kind Regards,
    Peter

    1. Hi Peter I have some TV Radio Guide magazines of that era. I will do a search and see what I have.

      1. Hi Peter. Sorry to say that I do not have that issue of TV Radio Guide.

My brother passed away a few years ago and I’ve been trying to figure out the timeline of that night, when I received the news I was half asleep, but the “miss potter” film was playing on free to air TV in Western Australia, it was Saturday the 5th of August 2017. I was thinking that if I could find what time the tv show started I could maybe gain a better idea of the timeframe. Thank you!

    1. Unfortunately, I don’t have a guide for WA for that day. However, I do have a Melbourne listing for that day. Miss Potter was showing on 7Flix, Melbourne, at 7.00pm that night. I don’t know if WA followed the same schedule.

Thank you very much in advance.

        1. I do not have guides from SA for that period, sorry.

Suggest that you check your local State Library as they often have newspaper archives that you may search for program listings.

Because of so many old tv guides you have published in this page, I have managed to find several tv shows I saw when I was a little kid. I couldn’t remember what they were called, I could only remember what they were about, or just a few images. Thank you so much!!! There is still a few shows I’m still looking for, they were from the early to late 1980s. Do you have any more tv guides from Western Australia which can be published, please?

    1. Thanks for the kind words, Brenton. I don’t have a huge number of classic WA guides but do obtain new ones from time to time. Keep watching…

    Hi Everyone,

I have a query and hope that someone will be able to help.

I recall watching a show in the late 1970’s on SAS10 (Adelaide) that was an Australian-made documentary. It was the style of an ‘expose’ of the naturist lifestyle and followed the experiences of a first time nudist attending a nudist camp in Sydney (I think). THe documentary style was clearly just a convenience to allow the producers to includes lots of nudity.

Can anyone recall the name of the show ?

    1. Not specifically, but I think there were a few of these “documentary” programs in the 1970s. Like you say, probably just an excuse to get some nudity on screen.

    Hi,
We’re a group of Aussies who are trying to determine when the ABC made one of their last broadcasts of the original version of The Goodies episode known as Kitten Kong, albeit a black and while broadcast, sometime between 1978 and 1981. The Kitten Kong episode was then rebroadcast a few weeks later, but this time it was the Montreux Special edition, which was broadcast in colour, and yes, there are quite a few differences between the two versions. I think the colour broadcast may have taken place during the NSW school holidays at the time, so the ABC would be showing test patterns instead of programs marked as For Schools during the daytime for the 2nd showing. Also, the episodes were only broadcast from Mondays to Thursdays, usually at a 6pm time slot, but for one year at a 6:25pm time slot. The original version of the Kitten Kong episode is believed lost thanks to the great BBC wipe fest of the early 1970’s in order to save themselves money by reusing master video tapes for new programs. Most of the lost episodes of the Goodies have been found though, mostly due to old black and white copies that were originally acquired by the ABC in Australia and discovered by a channel 7 employee when the ABC and Channel 7 were transferring the tapes between themselves due to changing broadcast rights in the mid 80’s, but the original version of Kitten Kong somehow didn’t surface when the other missing episodes were discovered. Only the Montreux edition of Kitten Kong survives, which is the version that is widely available on the DVD releases. There were TV listings at the time, in Sydney at least, which showed the names or descriptions of the episodes and if they were a black and white broadcast. Don’t ask me which TV guide it was though as it is too long ago for me to remember the exact details. Could be a newspaper weekly guide, could it be a newspaper daily guide, could be TV week, could be TV times, or some other guide? I just don’t remember. So if anyone can help with locating the double broadcast of The Goodies Kitten Kong, within the space of a few weeks of each other, sometime between 1978 and 1981, it would be a great help in our quest to find out what actually happened to the original black and white copy.

That was a lot of many years from 1992-97 VIC TV was still the only commercial network in that region. I recall from seeing programme guides in the papers they had mainly a Channel 9 schedule with a few differences, they showed:
    * all AFL games from Channel 7
    * the Barcelona 1992 and Atlanta 1996 Olympic Games from 7
    * the Victoria, Canada 1994 Commonwealth Games from 10
    * all Bathurst 1000 races from 7 and later 10
    * Beyond 2000 was shown instead of the controversial “Chances” and “Sex”
    * Different movies to those on VIC TV in aggregated areas: often VIC TV/WIN TV Mildura showed movies that 7 and 10 had the rights to.
    * and I’m sure a few others as well.

Also from 1997 to 2007, WIN TV Mildura had aired Channel 9 schedule, coupled with some programs from Ten may differ on STV8 in Mildura such as the Simpsons, The Panel, Everybody Loves Raymond, AFL from 2002 to 2007, Melbourne Cup from 1997 to 2001, motor racing (V8 Supercars) from 1997 to 2006 and movies. Also, Mildura Digital Television is an affiliate of 10, went launched on January 1 2006.

Also in many years from 1990 to 2010, MTN Television Griffith aired Nine Network programming, local news and Seven Network’s AFL coverage until 1997, AMN carrying generally a feed from Canberra of Prime’s CBN8 Orange programming went started in October 1997, then in 1998 when MTN9 become known as WIN, the AMN31 relay of Prime from Canberra still operates the Central West feed, also back in 2000s until early 2010s, WIN Griffith had aired Nine Network programming as well as some sports covered by Network 10 programming such as AFL (2002-2011) and V8 Supercars (1997-2006), Prime Griffith had rebroadcasts Seven Network and Prime Television programming is largely unchanged and in December 2010, Network 10 began broadcast into the area for the first time, the launch of Channel 10 Griffith is on digital TV’s third digital signal.

    Hi Andrew,
I’ve been going through your old tv guides to try and find when some shows were aired. I was looking for a couple that were famous before my living memory started (the 1970s). A guide that would tell me when Dobie Gillis aired and also the cult 60s hit Samarai. Also I have heard Aussies mention Lassie, under the title Jeff’s Collie, but not seen it listed in the guides. Can you please help kind Sir?

    1. Hi Stevie. Sorry I am unable to track down specific air dates for those shows, but new guides are added periodically and others are also posted on my Twitter feed https://twitter.com/TelevisionAU which might be of some interest.

I am aware of the show titled Jeff’s Collie. It does appear in a few listings on this site https://televisionau.com/page/2?s=jeff%27s+collie
