We are looking for a television show that aired in the 1974 – 1976 period in Perth. WA. It was a afternoon television show of various content that had a music segment in which local artists performed live. Is it possible to find the name of that show or get a TV guide relevant to that time.

Our problem is that we do not know if it was a weekday or weekend show or what channel it was aired on.

I have been trying to find this information since the death of my husband, who appeared on this show, singing Annies Song (by John Denver). We are looking to get a copy of his performance for his children.

If you have any information which could assist us in finding the name of this show or direct us to someone who would know it would be greatly appreciated.

    1. Hi Carol

Unfortunately I am not aware of the program you are seeking, however you may have better luck browsing the WA TV History website which is a very detailed account of TV history in Western Australia

    Hey

I’m searching for an American comedy series shown on sbs circa 2001 on Friday nights at about 11:30pm.
It was about three guys in an apartment that would always order pizza. They would attempt to intervene with the smooth delivery so it would arrive more than 30 minutes after their order so it would be free.

    Any help is much appreciated.

    Regards, Greg

In 1995 SBS showed a cricket documentary on cricket in India. Can someone remember what it was called? I recall that it was part of a series where they covered how sports play an important role in many countries, including soccer in Brazil. I know it was nearly 20 years ago, but wondering if anyone remembers and can tell me what it was called?

When will be getting more classic tv guides please?

    1. Soon. I’m currently in the process of migrating the existing guides (above) to the WordPress platform. So far the Victorian, NSW/ACT and Queensland listings are done. It’s a slow process as they are being done one at a time, but once they are all done then new listings will be added.

Production was from 1972 and apparently incorporated earlier Eric Porter animations; the pilot may have screened in a double bill with Porter’s Marco Polo Junior Versus the Red Dragon in cinemas during 1973, first listing for ATN-7 is Saturday 5 October 1974.

Adelaide’s Hey Hey its Saturday was the weekend version of Channel Niners, and continued as a hosted cartoon show until the imported Victorian show appeared in an evening slot when it became known as “Saturday Fun Day” and “Kid’s Saturday” and other such illmemorial titles.

Curious to see Brian & The Juniors seemed to be a Melbourne-only show in the mid-to-late 1960s, going from (nominal) 30 minutes to 1-hour sometime between 1965 and 1968. The show was the fore-runner to Young Talent Time, and 6 of the former show’s cast formed the first YTT “team” in April,1971. Two more former Juniors would join later in ’71, one of whom would be the music director at the end of the latter’s run in 1988, Do I need to name them? Okay, the first 6 were Debbie(now Debra) Byrne, Rod Kirkham, Jane Scali, Jamie Redfern, Vicki Broughton, Philip Gould. The additional members were Greg Mills(the boy who became MD toward the end of YTT’s run) and the sadly, deceased Julie Ryles, whom we lost to(I believe) brain cancer in 2011. Another former Juniorwho took over from Jamie Redfern when he was whisked away to the USA by Liberace in 1972, was Trevor Hindmarch. Jamie’s brother, Derek was Rod Kirkham’s replacement in 1973, paired with a cute little 8-year-old Sally Boyden who took over from Vicki Broughton who was already 18-years-old when the show resumed for 1973.(she’s two months older than I am!) Vicki was born in February, 1955, Rod in October of that year. Brian & The Juniors started as a radio show titled Swallows Juniors, held that name as it migrated from radio to TV in the late 1950s(one member became Mrs. Bert Newton – any guesses?….come on, you know who it was! Patti McGrath, of course!) When the biscuit company sponsorship crumbled, the show became Brian & The Juniors, giving some prominence to the host, the late Brian Naylor, HSV’s newsreader, later for GTV. Brian & The Juniors folded in 1970, YTT started the following year.

Well, I thought it was Melbourne-only when seeing the Classic TV guides but NBN-Newcastle did carry the show, though only sporadically. They treated it as “filler” for when they didn’t have anything else for a given afternoon timeslot. Also NBN couldn’t have had too many editions available, because I’d lost count of how many times I’d seen Rod Kirkham perform the Marty Wilde song “Abergavenny”. Even back then Jamie Redfern was attracting attention for his abilities. They chose him in 1968 to help Station HSV-Melbourne demonstrate colour TV during Moomba that year. Jamie was about to, or had just turned 11 years old. His birthday is 9th April and he was born in 1957(I remember that from all the press interest in him from 1971 to 1974). I wasn’ aware that Ernie Sigley had been a Swallows Junior. That’s a surprise to me and an extra point on your scorecard, Andrew… good one!

      • Neil Forbes on 5 February 2014 at 8:59 AM
      • Reply

Sorry, Andrew, not quite sure! Back then NBN was already closely associating itself with TCN, who had Humphrey Bear as their children’s TV “mascot”. Magic Circle came out of either TEN or ATN, so I don’t think it got a look-in on NBN, but if you think it WAS on NBN, then the Classic Guides for NSW might tell you. If it was a weekday or weekend show, take a look at a Saturday or Monday-to-Friday sample from around the period you think it might’ve been, and see if it was listed.

A correction, 2000 was the LAST year of the old(20th) century and thus the old millennium, the NEW millennium and century started on 1st January, 2001. It was because the old(now defunct) Electronics Australia magazine proclaimed in its January 2000 editorial, the start of the new millennium, a year too early, that I gave up buying the magazine. That premature proclamation had blown the magazine’s credibility to smitherines as far as I was concerned.

Hi, I’m trying to find out the name of a show that used to be on every year before Christmas in the late 80’s in sydney. It was about a girl that was in an orphanage or with a relative. I’ll know the name when I see it. I have been trying to find a tv guide for this time but have had no luck. Can you maybe direct me to where I might be able to try and look.

    Thanks

Hi there. I’m doing some research on The Beatles Tour of Australia commencing in Sydney on 11th June 1964 at 7:43am – when the plane landed. There is some evidence that ATN-9 and HSV-7 were going live-to-air in Sydney with the arrival, and that it was being fed down the co-axial to GTV-9 Melbourne.

Is there anything in the TV/newspaper schedules that confirms this? I do know that there was a telecast of edits at 9:30am on 7 Brisbane, repeated at 1:00pm – but did it go live in Sydney and Melbourne?

    Many thanks for any information.

unfortunately there’s no SMHs from june 1964 on Google News at all, they may require a trip to a state library.

I have found an Australian “TV Times” cover for the short lived TV series “Arcade”, depicting a wedding photo of two of the characters in the show . Can I download this cover to this site?

    1. Hi Rocky I already have that magazine. It may get featured on the site at a later stage

I remember watching The Banana Splits Show as a kid but cannot seem to find it by browsing the TV guides. Can anyone tell me when and for how long it screened in Australia and on which station?

Earliest I can find is 18:05 on Friday 30 May 1969 on ABN-2.

The Banana Splits in Hocus Pocus Land was on ABN at 11.30 on Monday 24 February 1975.

    Hello
Could you please tell me the name of a music video show shown in between tv programmes as a “time filler”in the early ’80s on Channel 10 in Melbourne? I believe it was called Rockfile but can’t find any web info. I would also like to know what exact time in the afternoon it was shown
    Thank you.

    1. I’m thinking “Rock Profile”? It was shown at various times I guess just whenever there was a random few minutes to be filled

You can upload some of TV programs in full program guides received in Australian made history, do you have upload a more TV guides from September 16 1956 to January 1 2007.

  1. I’ve just published a delightful short film about Yvonne Melville, a woman who produced and distributed TV guides in the 1960s. I wonder how many small business owners produced TV guides around the country?

Search ABC Open’s website, ‘Was tele better in the 60s?’ for Yvonne’s story.
