SBS and American company Vice Media have entered into a partnership to launch a new channel.
Vice, which formed in 1994, now has a cable channel Viceland in the US and Canada and operates in 30 countries providing content and programming across multiple platforms. Vice Australia has been producing digital content since 2003. Its video series covering the Indigenous experience of incarceration in Australia, Over-Represented, has been acclaimed by industry awards including the Walkleys.
The new channel, which will operate on the SBS2 signal and be available on SBS On Demand, will tap into Vice’s vast library of content covering culture, music, sports, fashion, technology and more from around the world aimed at a young audience.
Existing SBS2 program The Feed is expected to continue as will popular imported program If You Are The One.
Current daytime screenings of foreign-language news bulletins under the Worldwatch banner will also continue.
Further information on the new channel will be released over the coming months with an expected launch date late in 2016.
