The Seven Network has announced the launch of a nightly news bulletin for the Gold Coast market.
The 5.30pm bulletin, to be presented by Seven News‘ Rod Young (pictured) on weeknights and Amanda Abate on weekends, debuts on 4 July.
Young, a former ABC newsman who has presented Seven News in Brisbane with Kay McGrath for 14 years, will step aside from his current weekend newsreading duties at Seven in Brisbane to front the Gold Coast-based bulletin.
Paul Birt and Liz Cantor will present weather reports.
Seven’s Gold Coast bulletin will be broadcast from new studio facilities at Surfers Paradise.

The Gold Coast market has a population of around 500,000. The area’s only other local TV news service is a 5.30pm bulletin offered for many years by Nine, currently presented by Bruce Paige.
